Those youtube comments could make you re-evaluate the food-hype pushed on us by the food-industry in the USA

I live in Germany and many people, especially the older generation, eat just normal food… They eat pasta, waffles, pancakes, rice, cakes and lots of variety of food (home cooked normally) and they live quite long and strong.
Could it be the amount and quality of food you eat in the US are a bit different than what we eat here?

Regalo1.9.7.9 Yes. In the US, sugar (in one of several forms, but usually high fructose corn syrup) is added to almost everything. I noticed, as a teen, that bread was sweet, but was told I was wrong by several people. As an adult, I’ve spoken with many immigrants who refuse to eat store bought bread in the US because “it tastes like dessert.”

YES! Bread tastes like cake. My mom was of Ukrainean heritage and fed us constantly on kale, chard, cabbage, onions. Now ppl say they’re BITTER? Not to me…Love it…tastes like food! Spinach and [arsley taste sweet. I can make “dessert” from canned pumpkin, a bit of cream, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg….the cinnamon makes it sweet! If I add atiny bit of stevia, I cd prolly use the stevia packet 10 times

Regalo1.9.7.9 I was nearly in tears the whole time I was in Germany. The food tasted like it did when I was a child, not the tasteless chemical coated horror we’re fed here. Friends from Germany visit yearly and always complain the food here makes them sick. Be grateful and enjoy while you still can.

I don’t know what they put in our food here, but let me tell you this. When I was in Germany and ate at a traditional Bavarian restaurant……the food was like nothing I had had before. It tasted like the salad ingredients had just been picked, the cow had just been milked for the sauce, etc.. I don’t even know how to describe it. I guess that’s how food is meant to be.

I think you are quite right. If you compare say, a sausage made in Berlin with an American equivalent the additives, especially unnecessary sugar in the American version are extremely high. Another factor I found is that in Europe in general people walk and engage in daily activities much more than in North America, where many extremes are prevalent; for instance driving to a gym to work out and driving back again, even if it’s only 2 blocks. The 3rd thing you mentioned was home-cooked meals. There seems to be a frantic pace in many parts of the States where people microwave quick meals which are consumed very quickly. I grew up in an European culture (my mother was born in Berlin and my father in the former Yugoslavia; we also spent significant time each year in Quebec, where French cuisine predominates and both my parents loved to cook). At a very early age as children we were encouraged to eat adult food and sample everything. In North American there is a peculiar separation between children’s food and the food adults eat which I’ve never understood. Thanks for your observations!

I think the quality of the US good supply is the issue. It certain hasn’t helped that certain pesticide manufacturers have placed profits above people. Genetically corn and soybean are huge money makers however, in my opinion, these “altered” foods are not fit for human consumption. That why some US food products can not be exported. The human body was not designed to consume modified foods, foods that have been enriched, enhanced and are so full of chemicals that rats, roaches and insects won’t eat them.

Having access to those activities is consistent with socioeconomic status and infrastructure. When I was studying GIS applications for Health Care, I drew maps of an areas that had high incidences of juvenile diabetes. The overview of the geographical area depicted that the community under study did not have access to sidewalks, playground equipment, bike trails, etc. While other factors such as culture and dietary habits were considered, the lack of access to areas that facilitated regular physical exercise was definitely a major factor.

Regalo1.9.7.9 American soy is included in most of the food we consume. I know everyone is brainwashed with the GMO headlines but I think those people don’t understand what a smoking mirror is. Asian soy is healthy. American Soy is deadly!! Come on people dig a little deeper. Also, to everyone talking about being poor and not able to afford health foods look up local farmers markets in your area or google some online willing to ship. Try looking in Facebook groups for farmers markets co-op. They are cheap and typically are grown organically. Ask if they use GMO seeds if you need. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Stop blaming the government when it’s simply out of convenience most are overweight! Cook your own meals and source your own supplies. Also, there’s nothing saying we need 3 meals a day except the same that has given us everything that contains sugar!

SweetGypsyRose I am thinking that this country of ours has brought all this on ourselves, by our lack of acknowledging all that has gone on for so many, many years. We have failed to see the truth of what is really going on all around us. We have totally forgotten or just do not want to see the truth of how backslidden we have become. GOD is not mocked. There are consequences to every choice we make in this life. Call it what it is, Sin is Sin. Where has the Christian Nation gone that used to pray as a nation together so long ago. My heart just aches to see all the suffering we have brought on our nation. My heart just breaks for our young people and how much suffering they will have to endure, all because of what choices we have made. WAKE UP PEOPLE, PLEASE, while we have a chance to turn things around, or maybe it’s already too late. The day is coming, when we won’t have the opportunity to do something about it. Please, for our young people, our children and their families and so on and so on, PLEASE, PLEASE ? We need to pray as we have never prayed before as one nation under GOD, standing together as a nation United as we were so long ago. Where is our love for one another. Please think about it, won’t you???

You can teach your children to want only good food. Just do it from the day they are born..your diet is important for their breastmilk. I lived in Germany for fifteen years and noticed and participated in Volksmarches, 10-30KM walks folks do for medals. In short, the folks I lived with were much more active than the US folks, and had fat as a larger part of their diet and kind of shunned sugar naturally. So I think the German taste and cooking is set up more towards high fat high protein low carb to begin with, plus casual but consistent outdoor exercise and activity.

Best diet is no carbs. No sugar. No grains. No gluten. Eat only veg., salads + protein for two weeks then eat fruit moderately, say 1 – 2 pieces daily but fresh. Nothing tinned or processed. Within 3 days all cravings go. Breakfast is 1-2 protein foods eg scrambled eggs + smoked salmon (eggs, fish, chops, chicken, steak), tomato – moderate amount or none say half a tomatoe), mushrooms + veg eg handful spinach leaves, half to 1 zucchini. All bacon is sugar cured. Same with deli meats eg ham, turkey. You’ll lose more weight if bacon is avoided. Don’t load up on protein too much (use palm of hand size) or you will get constipated. Important to get greens on the plate. (Constipation cure – 7-10 prunes in the morning + more greens on plate with each meal).Within 3 days if you do this diet you will not crave anything. Dairy foods should be avoided too as they cause inflammation in the body. Stop eating cheese for say 4-7days and you’ll feel the body loosen up and aches and pains disappear.

I decided to follow your eating tips when my leg joint started to ache and i got a tremendous pressure in my right lower leg. After decreasing all sugars especially soda, coffee creamers, candy, baked good and anything else that seemed like processed junk, all my pain went away. After adding the healthy fats, nuts, coconut and olive oil, avocado and 3 fish oil capsules each day, I feel fantastic. I started losing weight very quickly and have much more energy and clearer vision. Wow! Love your tips and had no idea that all of this could cause saggy skin too. Thank you for all you do for so many.

The difference between sincere & profound and fashionable wellness-yoga

Prashant Iyengar (son of the founder of Iyengar yoga):
The 18 Maha Kriyas of Yogasana    Chapter 6     (2013)

In modern pseudo-yog feelings of beatitude, solace and sense of well-being have become essential features. Bliss, beatitude, tranquility, transcendence are all on the surface mind or peripheral mind. It is only the temporal mind which gets a sense of wellbeing or a “top of the world” feeling. This mind generated by neurons of the brain is but a tip of the iceberg.

Essential Yog works on, if I may say so, ‘mineral mind’, which is ad the ocean-depth of our minds. When the water of a lake is crystal-clear, our gaze reaches down to its basin, its floor-depth, we hardly notice the water. Similarly this mind is just the surface – the tip; there are yet greater depths of mind (why not see the bottom of the ice-berg, why always the tip?), which in this context I refer to our ‘mineral mind’ or ‘mineral consciousness’.

We pay a premium today for mineral water, because it is extracted from mountains and deep valleys and is rich in the nutrients of this earth. Similarly the submerged mind, the mind at bottom of the embodiment/citta also comes as a premium; it is not sighted easily but has to be mined from deep within.

Modern Yog is but a neat consumer package. “Feel fine” is the goal of the pseudo yog, but wheter one feels fine or not is not important as to ‘become and be fine’. The essential bliss in the mind is not a naked mind perception or sensation; like in scientific evaluations, the naked-eye perceptions are hardly consideration worthy or much less than those analyses of findings conducted with strong probes and/or scopes. Similarly here, the pseudo yog’s naked faculty feelings are worthy of neglect.[…]

In the material plane of life one hardly gets the chance to exercice and explore the more sensitive, philosophical and/or meditative states of mind. They remain neclected. But in yogic pursuits the mind gets a deep philosophical exploration and develops trance potentials too.
